On 25 November 2025, the Ministry of Transport, together with the Royal Thai Embassy in London, held a reception on the margins of the 34th Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to promote Thailand’s candidature for the IMO Council in Category C for the 2026–2027 term. The reception was attended by Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the IMO, as well as representatives of member states participating in the Assembly.

On this occasion, H.E. Mr. Nadhavathna Krishnamra, Ambassador of Thailand and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the IMO, delivered welcoming remarks and led a moment of silence in honour of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. Ambassador Krishnamra also mentioned Thailand’s readiness to serve on the Council once again after having been a constructive voice within the global maritime community, as a bridge between the interests of developed and developing countries, through the Council for nine consecutive terms (between 2006-2023).

Moreover, Mr. Punya Chupanit, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport of Thailand, in his remarks, highlighted key messages regarding Thailand’s candidature, emphasizing Thailand’s constructive role and vision in maritime affairs, and seeking the support of IMO member states for Thailand’s election to the IMO Council.
