* Under Thai law, a child possess his/her Thai citizenship after the Thai mother.
In case that the parents are not married and the mother is not a Thai national, the child will get Thai citizenship after the father has registered the child as his or providing the DNA test result, legalised by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom or the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland.

**In case of lost contact with father, mother must present the Child Custody Certificate (Form Kor Ror 14).
- A child born abroad must have the birth registration at the Royal Thai Embassy/ the Royal Thai Consulate-General in the country of birth.
- If the child was born before 1 March 1992 (B.E.2535), the UK/Irish Full Birth Certificate must be legalised by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom or the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland. The Embassy will keep the original legalized document for the record.

Note:
*Both parties must be at least 17 years old, according to Thai law (Civil and Commercial Code, B.E. 2535). In case of under 17 years old, parental consent is required.
** For Thai female, a new marriage can only be registered if at least 310 days have passed since the end of the previous marriage, except in cases of giving birth during this period, or remarriage to the same spouse, or a medical certificate stating that she is not pregnant, or a Thai court order allowing the marriage.

Q: Are divorcees permitted to retain their ex-husband’s surname?
A: No, divorcees are not permitted to retain their ex-husband’s surname in accordance with the Personal Names Act B.E. 2505 and its amendments (Act No. 2) B.E. 2530 (Act No. 3) B.E. 2548, Section 13. When a marriage is terminated by a divorce or a court's order, the party who used the surname of the other party must return to their original surname. If the marriage ends due to death, the widow may continue to use the husband’s surname. However, upon entering a new marriage, they must revert to their original surname.
