On 28 August 2026, His Excellency Mr. Nadhavathna Krishnamra, Ambassador of Thailand to the UK, held a virtual meeting with Mr. Matt Western MP, UK Trade Envoy to Thailand, Viet Nam, Cambodia, and Lao PDR, to follow up Mr. Western’s visit to Thailand in June 2026, as well as ways to further enhance economic partnership between Thailand and the UK.

 

     The conversation highlighted the importance of enhancing the bilateral economic partnership and continuing to work towards the opening of Thailand-UK FTA negotiations. It further allowed an exchange on the respective workplans and activities to strengthen engagement with UK businesses to promote trade and investment with Thailand as well as closer Thai-UK cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) and education to build enabling environment for deep tech and high-value industries. In addition, the two sides looked forward to the 2nd meeting of the Thailand-UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO), as well as upcoming exchanges of high-level visits.

 

     The Ambassador also took the opportunity to highlight the Royal Thai Embassy’s role as Chair of the ASEAN London Committee (ALC) during the second half of 2026, with activities to strengthen economic cooperation between ASEAN and the UK, particularly in high potential sectors for trade and investment.
