On 26 August 2026, H.E. Mr. Nadhavathna Krishnamra, Ambassador of Thailand to the UK, accompanied by officials from the Royal Thai Embassy, visited Cardiff and Swansea to explore potential avenues of cooperation between Thailand, ASEAN and Wales.

 

During the one day visit, the Ambassador, together with Mr. Nigel Payne, President of Consular Association Wales, and Mr. Theo Coliandris, Honorary Consul of Thailand in Cardiff, had a meeting with Mr. David Warren, Head of International Relations, and Ms. Ruth Stockley, Senior International Trade Adviser, representing the Welsh Government, to discuss ways to strengthen Thailand-Wales relations and cooperation, particularly in the areas of trade, investment and energy security as well as to arrange joint activities between ASEAN and Wales during Thailand’s chairmanship of the ASEAN London Committee (ALC). The Honorary Consul of Timor-Leste in Wales and the Honorary Consul of the Philippines in Wales also jointed the meeting virtually. In addition, they also met with Councillor Michael Michael, Lord Mayor of Cardiff, to exchange views on the promotion of Thailand-Wales cooperative endeavours, particularly in the field of education.

 

In Swansea, the Ambassador and the Embassy’s officials visited Sanghapadipa Temple, to pay respect to Phra Khru Bhavanavidhan, the temple’s abbot, and conversed with members of the Thai community in Wales. At the temple, the Ambassador also met with Ms. Shajneen (Shaz) F. Abedean, Deputy Lieutenant for West Glamorgan.
