     On 22 May 2026, H.E. Mr. Nadhavathna Krishnamra, Ambassador of Thailand to the UK and the Embassy’s officials attended the closing ceremony of the One District One Scholarship Summer Camp (ODOS Summer Camp) at the University of Leicester. The Ambassador joined in delivering remarks and presented certificates to 51 Thai students who participated in the programme together with Professor Henrietta O’Connor, Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leicester, and Ms. Kamonthip Netthanomsak, Managing Director of Leicester City Football Club (LCFC).

    On this occasion, the Ambassador met with Professor O’Connor to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the University of Leicester and Thailand. Professor O’ Connor expressed the University’s readiness to expand its academic partnership with Thailand particularly on fields that the University has earned recognition for, including health and space sciences. During the discussion, the Ambassador also underscored the Embassy’s priority in advancing educational cooperation between Thailand and the United Kingdom by designating 2026 as the “Year of Thai-UK Education Partnership.” The initiative aims to promote and expand educational collaboration between Thailand and the UK at all levels under the framework of the Thailand–UK Enhanced Trade Partnership (ETP).

     The ODOS Summer Camp’s inaugural programme was held in late 2025 with success. A total of 928 Thai youths participated in the ODOS Summer Camp 2026 programme to undertake six-week short courses at leading universities and technology companies in nine countries including the Commonwealth of Australia, Canada, the People’s Republic of China, Finland, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the Republic of Singapore, the United States of America, and the UK , between March and May 2026 aimed at enhancing digital knowledge and skills. A total of 159 Thai students and chaperones joined the programme in the UK from 12 April to 23 May 2026 at the University of Leicester, the University of Surrey, and the University of Essex, with 53 participants hosted by each institution. During the programme, the University of Leicester arranged study visits for the Thai students to several key institutions, including Space Park Leicester and Leicester City Football Club (LCFC). The University’ staff praised the Thai students for their strong academic potential, enthusiasm, and strong interest in technology-related skills.
