Ambassador of Thailand met with President of Imperial College London and visited the University

On 30 September 2025, Ambassador Nadhavathna Krishnamra met with Professor Hugh Brady, President of Imperial College London. The two sides reviewed the excellent cooperation between Thailand and Imperial College, particularly on the SABER Lab. (Semiconductor AI & BioSensor Electronics Research Laboratory), which is a joint research laboratory between Mahanakorn University of Technology (MUT) and Imperial College, focusing on semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and biosensors. The two sides also exchanged views on opportunities for collaboration on other areas of Thailand’s interest, such as life sciences, material sciences, and medical sciences. Imperial College has recently established the Schools of Convergence Science, which emphasises four main areas including (1) Health technologies (2) Sustainability (3) Space, security and communication and (4) Artificial intelligence and humanity.

Subsequently, the Ambassador visited the University’s South Kensington Campus, where he was briefed by doctoral students at the SABER Lab. on their research projects. Later, the Ambassador visited the White City Campus, which has been designed as a comprehensive ecosystem for research, innovation development, and start-up growth.
At the site, the Ambassador observed the work of the Translation and Innovation Hub (I-HUB), which helps translate researches into tangible products and services, as well as the London Biofoundry, a state-of-the-art laboratory in synthetic biology supporting both research and product development for start-ups.

Currently, there are over 180 Thai students studying at Imperial College London. Looking ahead, Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation will allocate 5 doctoral scholarships per year, for a period of 5 years, to support Thai students pursuing Ph.D. studies at Imperial College in the fields of semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and biosensors. This initiative aims to strengthen the capabilities of the Thai workforce in these strategic areas.
