On 2 September 2021, Ambassador Pisanu Suvanajata led a mission of friendship to Portsmouth where he paid a courtesy call on Councillor Frank Jonas, Lord Major of Portsmouth at the Guildhall, City Council of Portsmouth. In this trip, he discussed with the Lord Mayor and various authorities of Portsmouth on the possible areas of cooperation, from academic cooperation with the University of Portsmouth to trade and investment opportunities. Portsmouth is one of the most important cities of the UK as it is a home of the Royal Navy and centre of the UK various maritime industries.

The Ambassador also paid a visit to the National Maritime Information Centre where he received a briefing and having a fruitful discussion with the Centre executive team on the future collaboration of maritime management and issues of common concerns that will lead to future collaboration between Thailand and the UK.

The visit to Portsmouth is part of the Royal Thai Embassy’s work plan to promote the profile of Thailand as a maritime nation attaching great importance to domestic maritime development and international maritime cooperation. Thailand is among the current IMO council member countries seeking the re-election for the term 2022-2023 in the election to be held by the IMO at the end of this year.
