All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Thailand paying their visit to Thailand

On 18-21 September 2023, Ambassador Thani Thongphakdi led six UK MPs who are members of All-Party Parliamentary Group on Thailand (APPG on Thailand) to visit Thailand. The group was led by Sir Graham Brady MP, Chair of the APPG on Thailand.  The aim of the visit was to further strengthen bilateral relations and to provide the delegation with an opportunity to learn about recent developments in Thailand.

During the visit, the delegation met with H.E. Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, H.E. Mr. Wanmuhamadnoor Matha, President of the National Assembly, as well as with Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Deputy Permanent Secretary, on behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In addition, the delegation held meetings with the Thailand-UK Parliamentarians Friendship Group, the Board of Trade, the British Chamber of Commerce Thailand and the Thai-UK Business Leadership Council (TUBLC). Discussions covered the broad range of bilateral and regional issues, especially in the areas of trade and investment. The Thai side expressed their readiness to start negotiations on a free trade agreement between the two countries. The two sides also shared views on how to further promote cooperation on education, such as, joint courses/degrees between Thai and UK universities.

On the last day of the visit, the delegation went to the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) to learn more about opportunities available for the British private sector and visited Senior Aerospace Thailand, a British company investing in the EEC.
