On 4 November 2017, Mr. Pisanu Suvanajata, Ambassador of Thailand to the United Kingdom and Ireland, delivered opening remarks at the Samaggi Summit, an annual meeting of Thai student societies in the UK who are members of Samaggi Samagom, the umbrella Association of Thai students in the UK. The event was attended by over 60 Thai students from various universities across the UK.

In his remarks, the Ambassador highlighted an important role of Thai students as "brand ambassador" to build up the good name and promote the country, as well as how important it is to be the good members of the societies they live in.  By sharing his experiences and thoughts, he also encouraged the students to undertake extracurricular activities to build up and polish their skills, while managing their time well for study.  These constructive activities in turn would be beneficial to their future career and their life.  The Ambassador also commended Samaggi Samagom as a central body for coordination and networking among different universities across the UK so that Thai students can engage and participate in various activities.  He also advised that Samaggi Samagom do more on outreach to build a comprehensive network of Thai student societies in the UK.  These young generations are the future of Thailand and they should work together to help develop the country to progress and prosperity. In this regard, the Royal Thai Embassy stands ready to support such initiatives.

Mr. Steve Buckley, President of the Anglo-Thai Society, also attended the meeting to present about its scholarship award programmes for Thai students.  The Anglo-Thai Society wished to engage more with and make itself better known among Thai students in order to help foster the Thailand-UK relations as it was the purpose of the Society, founded in 1962 after the state visit of His Majesty King Rama IX to help create a setting to enrich bilateral relations between the two countries.

The presence of the Ambassador of Thailand and the President of the Anglo-Thai Society reflects increased people-to-people cooperation between Thailand and the UK, as well as the role and the capability of Thai students, both in academic and non-academic aspects, and the close relations between the Embassy and the Thai student societies.
