On 9th – 12th July 2022 Ambassador Pisanu Suvanajata, in his capacity of Ambassador of Thailand to Ireland, visited Dublin to attend the National Day of Commemoration Ceremony organized by the Irish Government. The National Day of Ireland falls on 11th July and organized  in honour of all Irishmen and Irishwomen who died in the past wars, and to mark the anniversary of the end of Irish War of Independence on this day in 1921. 

On this occasion, Ambassador Pisanu paid a farewell call to H.E. Mr. Michael D. Higgins, the President of Ireland, during which he expressed his appreciation on all the assistance and support to strengthen Thailand – Ireland relations during his tenure as the ambassador. He has also extended the invitation to the President to pay a visit to Thailand. After the National Day of Commemoration Ceremony, Ambassador Pisanu attended a luncheon hosted by H.E. Mr. Simon Coveney, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence of Ireland in honour for Diplomatic Corps in Ireland.  

In addition, Ambassador Pisanu paid farewell calls to the Irish high-level officials namely (1) H.E. Mr. Joe Hackett, Secretary General of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland, and (2) Mr. Ronnie Downes, Assistant Secretary for Trade, Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment. In these calls, he reiterated ways and means to enhance bilateral trade and investment between Thailand – Ireland particularly in the areas of Ireland’s expertise such as food technology (Food for the Future), medical innovation and fintech. He recommended an establishment of Irish-Thai special joint trade mechanism to push forward the trade and investment between the two countries.

In this visit, Ambassador Pisanu met with executives of  the Chester Beatty Museum of Ireland, and Mr. Martin Murray, Executive Director of “Asia Matters”, the only Irish Think-Tank agency which focus on Asia, to discuss the future plans of cooperation to further strengthen Thai-Irish relations and to enhance bilateral trade and investment between the two countries.

During this trip, the Royal Thai Embassy also launched a mobile consular mission to members of the Thai Community in Ireland in which over 400 people came for the various services provided.
