On 16 September 2021, the Royal Thai Embassy organised an informal meeting in order to support the work of International Maritime Organization (IMO) as well as a “get-together” reception for IMO Permanent Representatives and colleagues as part of a campaign for Thailand’s candidature for re-election to the IMO Council for the term 2022-2023 in December 2021.
The informal meeting on Domestic Ferry Safety for the members of Permanent Missions to the IMO and NGOs was hosted by Mr. Watchara Chiemanukulkit, Maritime Attaché and Alternate Permanent Representative of Thailand to the IMO, to exchange views on the work of the IMO on enhancing the safety of domestic ferries. The meeting aimed to facilitate the discussion of the Working Group on Domestic Ferry Safety which will be established at the 104th Session of Maritime Safety Committee to be held during 4-8 October 2021. Mr. Irfan Rahim, Head of Special Projects, IMO Maritime Safety Division, was invited to deliver a presentation and to lead the discussion. It was a productive meeting filled with friendship and collaboration that constructively contributed to the work of the IMO.
Following the informal meeting, Ambassador Pisanu Suvanajata hosted a “get-together” reception at Mittra Samakhom Ballroom, the Royal Thai Embassy for Ambassadors / High Commissioners / Permanent Representatives to the IMO / and participants to the informal meeting. In this reception, the Thai Ambassador reiterated Thailand’s commitments to continue Thailand’s pro-active roles in the IMO and the international maritime affairs. Participating also in this reception were the IMO Secretary General and various senior executives of the IMO.
