On 16 September 2022, Ambassador Pisanu Suvanajata of Thailand and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Kitack Lim, Secretary-General of the IMO, to bid farewell upon the completion of his tour of duty and retirement. On this occasion, Ambassador Pisanu signed a book of condolence as arranged by the IMO for IMO Permanent Representatives on the passing of the late Queen Elizabeth II. The IMO Secretary-General also took this opportunity to host a luncheon in honour of Ambassador Pisanu and his spouse at the IMO Headquarters where a team of IMO executives also attended.
In his farewell remarks, the IMO Secretary-General commended Thailand’s pro-active role in the works of the IMO during the past 6 years, as well as Thailand’s consecutive success in maintaining the country’s seat in the IMO Council. A Letter of Appreciation was also awarded to Ambassador Pisanu to mark the IMO’s acknowledgment of his long dedication to support and promote the close cooperation between Thailand and the IMO during his tenure in the United Kingdom which evidently rendered successful outcomes.
IMO is a specialised agency of the United Nations responsible for the promotion of international cooperation in maritime affairs, navigation and environment, with its headquarters in London. Thailand has been a member of the IMO Council and has been serving actively in the Council for more than 17 years with its dedication to promote international partnership in maritime affairs, and to make global maritime safe, clean and environment-friendly for long-term and sustainable benefits of mankind.
