On 10 June 2022, Mrs. Urasa Mongkolnavin, Minister, attended, on behalf of Thailand’s mission, the 1st ASEAN London Committee (ALC) Meeting chaired by Lao PDR. Also attended the Meeting were Ambassadors/High Commissioners of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Singapore as well as representatives from Embassies/High Commissions of Malaysia, Myanmar and Vietnam.
Important issues discussed in the Meeting included (1) ALC’s directions and future workplans/activities in 2022 focusing on the strengthening of post-COVID-19 ASEAN-UK relations (2) the preparation for the upcoming ASEAN-UK Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) in London on 5-6 July 2022 (3) ALC’s plan to meet various UK’s public groups and to organise arts/cultural activities to promote people-to-people relationship, such as engagement with the Scottish House, coordination with UK’s legislative body, and such activities as the 2nd ASEAN Film festival etc.
The ALC is a testimony to the cohesiveness and synergy of ASEAN as a whole to move forward a constructive engagement with the UK. This will in turn contribute to the interests of each respective ASEAN member in the development of bilateral relations with the UK.
