On 8 September 2026, Ambassador Nadhavathna Krishnamra welcomed Mr. Prach Boondiskulchok, a renowned Thai pianist and composer, at the Royal Thai Embassy in London. Also joining the discussion were Ms. Kritsana Chonweerawong, Minister, Mr. Charubhumi Ruangsuwan, Minister Counsellor and Mrs. Ornwijit Chantrangsri, Counsellor.

          Potential collaboration to promote and showcase contemporary Thai music in the UK was discussed. Mr. Boondiskulchok presented concept details of his contemporary opera composition inspired by Burmese Days, the novel by famous English writer, George Orwell. The work reinterprets the story through a Southeast Asian socio-cultural lens, incorporating musical and cultural elements from Thailand and Myanmar. The production will feature a Thai Piphat ensemble and Myanmar’s Hsaing Waing ensemble, alongside artists from both countries.

          The opera is scheduled to have its World Premiere at the Royal Opera of La Monnaie in Brussels, Belgium from 6–11 June 2027, followed by its UK Premiere on 19 June 2027 at LSO St Luke’s in London, presented by the Barbican Centre. The production represents an important opportunity to showcase contemporary music and artistic expression from Southeast Asia and the world of Thai pianist and composer to audiences in the UK and on the international stage.
