Royal Thai Embassy in London Hosts Special Craft Talks as Part of “The Art of Thai Miniatures” during London Craft Week 2026

          On 14 May 2026, the Royal Thai Embassy in London hosted  Special Talks on Thai arts and crafts as part of “The Art of Thai Miniatures” exhibition at the Embassy. The event welcomed more than 70 participants, including members of the diplomatic corps, Mr. Guy Salter, Chairman and Founder of London Craft Week, curators from the Victoria and Albert Museum and British Museum, as well as the Friends of Thailand and the general public.

          On this occasion, Ambassador Nadhavathna Krishnamra delivered welcoming remarks, highlighting key objectives of the exhibition in showcasing the beauty and intricacy of Thai craftsmanship to the public in the UK. The Ambassador took the opportunity to express the Embassy’s profound appreciation to Ms. Lisa King, a textile artist who donated miniature Thai houses and miniature handicrafts from the private collection of her late mother, Mrs. Farida King, to the Royal Thai Embassy. The collection served as a key inspiration behind this exhibition. In her reply, Ms. Lisa King expressed her thanks to the Embassy for bringing her late mother’s collection to life, showcasing the love and enduring bonds between her family and Thailand and Thai culture.

          The Ambassador also expressed appreciation to the Sustainable Arts and Crafts Institute of Thailand (SACIT) for inviting two Thai master artisans to participate in the seminar session, namely: (1) Mr. Chatree Nuengchamnong, SACIT Master Craftsman of Woodwork 2018 (Miniature junk boat), who spoke on “When Craft Carries Fortune: The Legacy of the Auspicious Junk Boat”; and (2) Mrs. Natchakon Buchshup, SACIT Master Craftman of Woodwork 2024 (Traditional Thai House - Model Raft House), who spoke on “Architectural Miniatures: Shaping Second Chances.” as well as to Ms. Ploydao Theeravech, a specialist in Thai miniature food art, who shared her insights and affection for the art of creating miniature Thai cuisine, which was also featured in the exhibition through displays of miniature foods from the four regions of Thailand. Following the talk, participants were invited to visit the exhibition of miniature Thai houses and miniature handicrafts and to participate in a hand-on workshops on miniature boat and miniature sticky rice and mango.

          “The Art of Thai Miniatures” exhibition opens to the public free of charge from 11-17 May 2026, between 10.00 hrs. and 17.00 hrs. , at the Royal Thai Embassy in London.
