On 14 June 2022 between 10.00-12.00 hrs., the Royal Thai Embassy in London hosted the launch of Thailand Digital Sector Guidebook to promote the opportunities for digital business in Thailand and market access to the targeted UK enterprises. This event was organised in cooperation with the British Embassy in Bangkok and the Department for International Trade (DIT) and was attended by Mr. Mark Garnier, Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Thailand, Ms. Natalie Black, Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Asia Pacific and Mr. Andrew Mitchell, Director General for Exports at DIT, together with more than 50 participants from leading Thai and British digital businesses.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Pisanu Suvanajata, Thai Ambassador to the UK, highlighted the increasing significance and potentials of the digital sector to the Thai economy and the Thai Government’s ambitious goal to support the growing digital sector to become one of the key mechanisms to the country’s economic recovery in the post-pandemic era in line with the government’s Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model. Given that the UK is considered a global center of digital startups and innovation, close collaboration among business sectors of both countries would be required to realise the mutual investment benefits for both countries.

The event comprised a presentation by Bolliger & Company (Thailand) Ltd to provide a summary of Thailand Digital Sector Guidebook and give a comprehensive overview of opportunities in the digital sector in Thailand, as well as presentations on the digital ecosystem and investment package in Thailand and the latest development of the Digital Park Thailand to support foreign investment by the Board of Investment of Thailand Office (BOI) in Paris and the Eastern Economic Corridor for Digital Office (EECd) in Thailand respectively. There was also a panel discussion and Q&A session led by Ms. Natalie Black, Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Asia Pacific, together with representatives of the two leading Thai and UK digital companies, Techsauce and Yoti, to share their successful investment experiences in Thailand.

This event was the opportunity to reiterate Thailand and UK’s collaboration to promote and stimulate bilateral economic relations and development in all sectors relating to the digital world, which is the sector of high potentials agreed upon by both sides to bring about further economic development and security in the years to come.

For this guidebook, it is published with the sponsorship of the UK Government for British potential businesses to promote promising investment opportunities in the digital sector in Thailand and the Asia Pacific region with Thailand as a regional hub, which is in line with the Indo-pacific Tilt Policy under the UK’s Global Britain Strategy.
