As part of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), U-Tapao Airport is to be elevated to become Thailand’s third major international airport, connected to Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports by a high-speed railway. Once completed, the three commercial airports will be able to collectively handle up to 200 million passengers per year. This project will create a new center for targeted industries, especially in tourism, logistics and aviation. It will also become an aviation city underscoring Thailand’s status as an aviation hub and economic gateway to Asia.
