Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has won the UN-Habitat award for its Klong Ong Ang renovation project, the capital of Thailand’s latest walking street launched in November 2020. The Klong Ong Ang Landscape Improvement Project won the 2020 Asian Townscape Awards of UN-Habitat Fukuoka. The award was given to six countries in total, namely, Japan, South Korea, China, Nepal, Malaysia and Thailand.

Klong Ong Ang landscape development was globally acclaimed for its success. A congested communal area for decades, the historical canal has been cleaned and its banks given a facelift to attract visitors. Now, the Klong Ong Ang Walking Street, features charming street art along both sides of the canal as well as food and goods, plus live music, other performances and kayaking activities. This remarkable development has both uplifted the local community in the area and provides Bangkok a magnificent new lifestyle hotspot.
