On 14 May 2025, Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya graciously presided over the exhibition “Chud Thai Through the Ages: Weaving History, Craft and Identity” at the Royal Thai Embassy, London.

The exhibition is held to commemorate the 170th anniversary of Thailand–United Kingdom diplomatic relations and forms part of London Craft Week 2025.

On this occasion, Her Royal Highness graciously delivered a special lecture titled “The Evolution of Chud Thai and the Timeless Craft of Thai Textiles”, alongside Associate Professor Dr. Anucha Thirakanont, Director of the Sustainable Arts and Crafts Institute of Thailand (SACIT), a Public Organisation.

The event was attended by over 40 distinguished guests, including prominent figures from the United Kingdom’s arts and crafts sectors, representatives from leading museums in London, and senior executives from renowned fashion and jewellery brands.

Following the lecture, Her Royal Highness graciously led the guests on a tour of the exhibition, which features Her Royal Highness’s personal collection of traditional Thai costumes, including the eight official styles of Chud Thai (Thai national costumes). The exhibition also showcases modern adaptations of Thai textiles and specially curated garments designed by renowned Thai designers using traditional fabrics.

In addition, the exhibition presents rare woven textiles, traditional Thai patterns, and contemporary adaptations of Thai textile designs created by Her Royal Highness. These works reflect Her Royal Highness’s continued dedication to preserving, sustaining, and further developing Thailand’s rich textile heritage.

This exhibition also pays tribute to the royal initiatives of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, who has long devoted herself to the preservation and promotion of Thailand’s textile traditions.

“Chud Thai Through the Ages: Weaving History, Craft and Identity” is open to the public free of charge from now until 18 May 2025, daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, at the Royal Thai Embassy, London.

This exhibition serves as a valuable platform to showcase Thailand’s rich cultural heritage and artisanal craftsmanship, while also strengthening the longstanding and cordial relations between Thailand and the United Kingdom through the shared appreciation of exquisite traditions.
