Following our previous reports circulated since 28 March 2025, the overall situation has seen positive developments.
After thorough assessment, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has reclassified the disaster management level of the current situation from a Level 3 (large scale) disaster to a Level 2 (medium scale) disaster. This will result in provincial governors and the Governor of Bangkok being authorised to take charge of leading disaster management within their respective areas of responsibility, as needed.
This morning, despite various reports of tremors being felt in some locations, authorities confirm that aftershocks from the 28 March earthquake are all at lower scales, and are no longer a risk to Thailand. The Governor of Bangkok has further reassured residents that ongoing inspections are proceeding and no significant aftershocks are expected.
As a new working week begins, the situation in affected parts of the country continues to resume normalcy, with services and businesses returning to full capacity. As of this morning, 31 March 2025, all rail lines, BTS, MRT and SRT, have resumed operation. In addition, the obstruction from the fallen crane on the expressway in Din Daeng has now been cleared and has fully reopened to traffic. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), with support of volunteer engineers and related agencies, will continue safety inspections for buildings around the city, including those requested through the BMA’s channels.
At this time, search and rescue work is continuing at the State Audit Office building site in Chatuchak. All authorities involved remain hopeful of the result, and we wish to thank many international friends and partners for their support. At present, teams of international experts and their equipment, are already hard at work on the site, working alongside our Thai officials and volunteers.
During these challenging times for many, the BMA, under the ‘BANGKOK we are OK!’ campaign, is organising public activities, including music concerts, around the city. The objective of this campaign is to boost the morale and maintain the wellbeing of the capital’s residents, in order to encourage the full return to normalcy and vibrancy in all aspects of the City. The diplomatic corps and Bangkok’s international residents are most welcome to take part and enjoy these activities.
