On 8 June 2026, His Excellency Mr. Nadhavathna Krishnamra, Ambassador of Thailand to the UK, welcomed a delegation from the Chiang Mai Carbon Capture and Storage Research Center at Chiang Mai University, led by Associate Professor Dr. Suparit Tangparitkul, Head of the Research Center, at the Royal Thai Embassy in London. The delegation also included Dr. Nirawat Thammajak, Director of the Program Management Unit for Human Resources & Institutional Development, Research and Innovation (PMU-B), and Associate Professor Dr. David Harbottle, Head of the International Science Partnerships Fund from the University of Leeds.

Both sides exchanged views on recent developments in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology and the development of Thailand‘s legislative framework in supporting greenhouse gas emissions reduction and the importance of obtaining best practices from international public and academic sectors to support the advancement of CCS technologies in Thailand. The Ambassador underscored the Embassy’s priority in advancing Thai–UK strategic partnership in areas of mutual interest, particularly in science and technology, innovation, clean energy, and education. In this respect, the Embassy has designated this year as the “Thai–UK Year of Education Partnership” to promote academic exchanges between the two countries at all levels in various fields of studies.

The Chiang Mai Carbon Capture and Storage Research Center received research funding from the International Science Partnerships Fund through collaboration between the British Council and PMU-B.
