On 5 February 2026, Ambassador Nadhavathna Krishnamra attended a meeting to discuss science and technology cooperation between Thailand and the UK, with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI) research, development, and application. The Thai delegation was led by Professor Dr. Supachai Pathumnakul, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), and included representatives from key Thai science and technology agencies, including
(1) Office of Population Policy and Strategy
(2) National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA)
(3) National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC)
(4) Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI)
(5) King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi and
(6) Mahanakorn University of Technology.
The UK side included representatives from state agencies and leading universities, including
(1) Data Science Team of the Prime Minister’s Office (10DS)
(2) Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO)
(3) Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT)
(4) University of Southampton (5) London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)
(5) Imperial College London and (6) British Embassy in Thailand.
The meeting, held at the Royal Thai Embassy in London, provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views broadly on advancing Thailand-UK cooperation in science and technology, with particular emphasis on artificial intelligence, a field of mutual interest for future collaboration.
The Permanent Secretary and delegation visited the UK from 1 - 7 February 2026, during which they also held discussions with UK government agencies, leading universities, and research institutions to further strengthen and expand cooperation in higher education, science, research, and innovation between the two countries.
