On 20 January 2026, His Excellency Mr. Nadhavathna Krishnamra, Ambassador of Thailand to the United Kingdom, met with Seema Malhotra MP, Minister for the Indo-Pacific, to discuss and exchange views on Thailand–United Kingdom cooperation and ways to drive Strategic Partnership forward, as well as regional developments.

During the meeting, Ambassador Krishnamra briefed Minister Malhotra on the Embassy’s preparations for overseas voting and the constitutional referendum for Thai nationals residing in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The two sides also discussed preparations for the next Thailand–UK Strategic Dialogue (SD) and Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) meetings, which will serve as key mechanisms for advancing issues of mutual interest following the formation of Thailand’s new government. These include the possibility of initiating negotiations on a Thailand–United Kingdom Free Trade Agreement, as well as advancing a digital trade agreement. Both sides also explored opportunities to enhance cooperation in potential areas such as education and energy.

Moreover, the Ambassador and Minister exchanged views on regional developments and ASEAN–UK relations, noting that 2026 marks the fifth anniversary of the United Kingdom’s accession to ASEAN as a Dialogue Partner.
