On 26 March 2025, Ambassador Nadhavathna Krishnamra met with Mr. Matt Western, the UK’s Trade Envoy to Thailand, at the Parliament to discuss bilateral economic cooperation. The meeting marked an opportunity for both officials, newly appointed to their respective roles, to reaffirm their commitment to enhancing trade, investment, and collaboration in key sectors of mutual interest.
Discussions focused on expanding economic ties, particularly in areas such as health, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, financial services, renewable energy, the automotive industry, and education. Ambassador Nadhavathna reiterated Thailand’s ambition to increase trade volume with the UK and to start Thailand-UK FTA negotiations, as well as to prepare for the second meeting of the Joint Economic and Trade Committee, expected to take place later this year.
In addition, Ambassador Nadhavathna shared plans for a series of activities to celebrate the 170th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the UK. These initiatives aim to further strengthen the longstanding partnership between the two countries.
