On 28 October 2025, Ambassador Nadhavathna Krishnamra met with The Rt Hon Emily Thornberry, the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee and Dan Carden MP, also member of the APPG for Thailand.

Dame Emily expressed her deepest condolences on the occasion of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. She also inquired about Thailand’s political, economic and social developments and exchanged views on the positive dynamism in Thailand–UK bilateral relations, particularly this year, which marks the 170th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. A series of celebratory activities have been organised in both Thailand and the United Kingdom, including a visit to Thailand by the APPG for Thailand delegation, led by Mr. Mark Garnier, MP, and former UK Trade Envoy, to strengthen engagement with the legislative branch and various sectors.

Another activity is the Royal Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony at Buddhapadipa Temple in London. This year’s ceremony is of special significance as the Ambassador of Thailand to the United Kingdom and the British Ambassador to Thailand will jointly present the Royal Kathina Robe, bestowed by His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand, marking this historic anniversary.

In addition, both sides took this opportunity to discuss regional and ASEAN developments, noting the success of this year’s the 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings, including the accession of Timor-Leste to ASEAN. Thailand also signed the Joint Declaration (Kuala Lumpur Peace Agreement) with Cambodia, reaffirming mutual commitment to peace and stability between the two countries.
