On 17 January 2020, Ambassador Pisanu Suvanajata hosted a reception on the occasion of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Day at Mittra Samakhom Ballroom, Royal Thai Embassy, with over 150 guests attending the reception. Major General Neil Sexton, Director of Army Engagement and Communications, Ministry of Defence, was the Guest of Honour representing the Government of the United Kingdom.
Ambassador Pisanu highlighted that 2020 is a landmark year as the two Kingdoms celebrate the 165th anniversary of diplomatic relations. He envisioned an enhanced strategic partnership, especially in the realm of defence cooperation through both bilateral and multilateral platforms such as military training and joint exercises, capacity-building and cooperation on international maritime issues and peacekeeping operations. Major General Sexton underscored the longstanding military ties and the importance of Thailand as a close and strategic partner on defence cooperation.
