On 27 November 2019, Mr. Pisanu Suvanajata, Ambassador of Thailand, attended the 31st Assembly of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), and delivered Thailand's General Statement, highlighting the commitments in implementing IMO instruments to ensure safe, secured, and sustainable use of oceans for shipping and other maritime activities. Other notable achievements that were noted in his statement are Thailand's leading role in the region in eradication of marine debris, capacity building for regional countries in effective implementation of IMO instruments, and the contributions of the maritime and related industries which should be constructively engaged more in the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources. Thailand also championed the cooperation between the IMO and regional bodies such as ASEAN and UNESCAP which will contribute to the realisation of Sustainable Development Goals.
