Applicants are required to set up an account and submit visa applications as an individual, or apply through travel agencies as previously, where travel agencies will submit online applications on their behalf.  However, supporting documents have to be attached and payment has to be made online through secured portal.

For applicants aged 50 and over who wish to stay in Thailand for an extended period without the intention of working. 

"O-X"

For applicants aged 50 and over who wish to stay in Thailand for an extended period without the intention of working, and who are nationals of of (1) Japan (2) Australia (3) Denmark (4) Finland (5) France (6) Germany (7) Italy (8) Netherlands (9) Norway (10) Sweden (11) Switzerland (12) United Kingdom (13) Canada (14) United States of America

 

 

Visa applicants are required to read carefully the details and requirements of each type of Non-Immigrant visas.
 

Please note :

  • The document to be submitted for non-immigrant visa application is contingent upon necessities and purposes of the visit to Thailand.
  • Consular officers reserve the rights to request additional documents as deemed necessary.
  • Copies of company documents must be signed by Board of Directors and affixed the seal of the company.
  • In the absence of a required document, a letter indicating the unavailability of such document must be provided.
  • The applicant must sign on each page of the copy.

Validity of visa and permitted length of stay   

  • Single Entry Visa will be valid for 3 months from the date of issue. You must enter Thailand within the validity of visa.  However, the permitted length of stay is up to 90 days from the date of your arrival in Thailand. Please carefully note the immigration stamp in your passport to make sure that you do not overstay your visa.

  • Multiple Entries Visa will be valid for 1 year from the date of issueYou must enter Thailand within the validity of visa. However, the permitted length of stay is up to 1 year from the date of your arrival in Thailand. Please carefully note the immigration stamp in your passport to make sure that you do not overstay your visa.

 

Required Documents

The applicants must submit the following relevant documents depending on the purpose of their visit. 

 

Basic Documents Required for ALL Types of Non-Immigrant Visa

 

  • Printout of visa application form submitted online, with bar code
  • Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months and at least 2 blank pages. Applicants must fill in online visa application with their given name(s) and surname as appear in their passports.
  • Supporting documents for the purpose of visit to Thailand. (Please see details for each type.)

 

The Royal Thai Embassy reserves the rights to request for other additional documents, depending on the type of Non-Immigrant Visa.

 

Additional Documents Required for EACH Type of Non-Immigrant Visas

 

Non-Immigrant Type F (to attend a meeting with Thai agency or to participate an event organized by Thai government, or to work with the government, diplomatic mission or an international organisation in Thailand single entry only)

 

  • Letter from relevant agency -- Thai authority, embassy, consulate-general, or international organization certified the purpose of visit

One Stop Service Centre for Visas and Work Permits :


The One Stop Service Centre for Visas and Work Permits was established on 1 July 1997 by authority of the Regulations of the Office of Prime Minister promulgated on 30 June 1997. The objective of this centre is to simplify visa extension and permit issuance procedures to create a good investment environment. It aims to facilitate applications of visa extension and work permits (e.g., stay permission, re-entry permit, work permit). The Centre is located on Chamchuree Square Building, Floor 18th, Phatumwan, Bangkok.

 

Foreigners who are eligible to apply for visa extension and work permits at the One Stop Service Centre are:
             1.  Foreigner who is an executive or expert with privileges accorded to them by the following laws:
                      - Investment Promotion Act B.E. 2520 (1977)
                      - Petroleum Act B.E. 2514 (1971)
                      - Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand Act B.E. 2522 (1979)
            2.   Foreigner who is an investor.
                      -  If investing not less than 2 million Baht, he or she will be granted a 1 year permit.
                      -  If investing not less than 10 million Baht, he or she will be granted a 2 year permit.
            3.   Foreigner who is an executive or expert.
                      -  Foreigner’s associated company should be registered with capital or possess asset of not less than 30 million Baht.
            4.   Foreigner who is member of the foreign press must present a letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a copy of an ID Press Card issued by the Department of Public Relations.
            5.   Foreigner who is a researcher or developer on science and technology.  
            6.   Foreigner who is employed in a branch office of an overseas bank, foreign banking office of an overseas bank, provincial foreign banking office of an overseas bank or a representative office of foreign bank in which all offices are certified by the Bank of Thailand.
            7.   Foreigner who works on the necessary and urgent basis for a period of no longer than 15 days.
            8.   Foreigner who is an official of the representative office for foreign juristic persons concerning the International Trading Business and Regional Office of Transnational Corporation in accordance to the Foreign Business Act B.E. 2542 (1999).
            9.   Foreigner who is an expert on information technology.
           10.  Foreigner who works at regional operating headquarters.

 

Non-Immigrant Type B (working as a teacher / employed as an academic staff - single entry only)

 

Required documents

Visa regulation of Thailand concerning the visa applicant from English native speaking countries who wishes to apply for an appropriate visa to work as a teacher in Thailand both on employment basis and voluntary basis is as follows :


1. On Employment Basis

Printout of visa application form submitted online, with bar code

  • Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months and at least 2 blank pages
  • Academic qualification certificate
  • Letter confirming employment details from schools/universities signed by authorised person together with a copy of ID card or passport of the signer
  • Copy of school/university’s registration
  • Approval letter from concerned authority under the Ministry of Education
  • Certificate of criminal record clearance from the UK (ACRO, DBS, or issued by the police, not older than 6 months) or Ireland (issued by the national police department not older than 6 months)
  • Financial evidence e.g. bank statements, proof of earnings, proof of sponsorship from a third party
  • Confirmation of legal residence in the UK or Ireland

If the applicant has appropriate qualification, the Embassy will issue a non-immigrant visa, type “B”, single entry with three months validity to the applicant within two working days. With this kind of visa, the applicant will be permitted to stay in Thailand not more than 90 days.

Once the applicant arrives Thailand, the education institution will apply a teacher license at the Ministry of Education or the Ministry of University Affairs and also apply for work permit at the Ministry of Labour for the applicant. The work permit will be issued within 7 working days.

After being granted teacher license and work permit, the applicant is required to submit teacher license, work permit, employment contract and employment certificate to the Immigration Bureau in Bangkok in order to apply for visa extension to cover the term of employment.


2. On Voluntary Basis

The applicant must apply for a non-immigrant visa, type “O” at the Embassy. The applicant is required to submit an official recommendation letter from the organisation in Thailand to the Embassy. Information on the term of voluntary work of the applicant in Thailand have to be provided for the Embassy’s consideration. If the applicant has appropriate qualification, the Embassy will issue a non-immigrant visa, type “O”, single entry with three month validity to the applicant within two working days. With this kind of visa, the applicant will be permitted to stay in Thailand not more than 90 days. In case the applicant wishes to extend the duration of stay in Thailand, the applicant is required to apply with the Immigration Bureau in Thailand by enclosing an official introduction letter of the Organization in Thailand.

Please be informed that a foreigner who is holding a Thai tourist visa is not permitted to work as an English teacher in Thailand, even on a voluntary basis.

 

Non-Immigrant Type B (Internship (non-curricular internship) - single entry only)

 

Business registration and business license of the company in Thailand

  • Approval letter from concerned authority under the Ministry of Education

Non-Immigrant Type ED (To study in a higher education level (university or college) - single entry only)

 

  • Academic certificate from previous education level

  • Financial evidence e.g. bank statements, proof of earnings, proof of sponsorship from a third party

  • Letter confirming the curricular internship from the visa applicant’s university/educational institute

Non-Immigrant Type ED (Buddhism studies (monk) or performing Buddhist ritual activities - single entry only)

  • Non-Immigrant Type M  (Media / Press based in Thailand, or Film crew (having purpose of producing a film, motion picture or advertisement - single entry only)

  • Applicant who wishes to work as a film-producer, journalist, or reporter, may apply for this type of visa.

  • First, the applicant has to register with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to seek a filming permit at the MFA Media Online Service.

Once approved, the applicant has to apply for visa at the Royal Thai Embassy, submitting the following :

- Printout of visa application form submitted online, with bar code

- Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months and at least 2 blank pages

- Approval letter from Department of Tourism (Thailand Film Ofifice)/filming permit

- letter of employment to confirm the media trip

Financial evidence e.g. bank statements, proof of earnings, proof of sponsorship from a third party

Confirmation of legal residence in the UK or Ireland

Non-Immigrant Type (Voluntary work with NGO/Charity/Association (without salary) - single entry only)

 

  • Letter confirming voluntary work signed by authorised person together with a copy of ID card or passport of the signer
  • Registration of NGO/Charity/Association
  • Financial evidence e.g. bank statements, proof of earnings, proof of sponsorship from a third party
  • Confirmation of legal residence in the UK or Ireland

Non-Immigrant Type (Visiting or staying with applicant's family resided in Thailand (more than 60 days) - single entry only)

  • Proof of relationship to a family in Thailand, e.g. a copy of marriage certificate / birth certificate / certificate of adoption
  • Personal details of a family in Thailand, e.g. ID card, Passport and the visa page or stay permit in Thailand
  • Proof of accommodation in Thailand e.g. hotel bookings, invitation letters from family/friends in Thailand
  • Financial evidence e.g. bank statements, proof of earnings, proof of sponsorship from a third party
  • Confirmation of legal residence in the UK or Ireland

 

  • Non-Immigrant Type (Retirement (pensioner aged 50 or above with a state pension who wants to stay in Thailand for no longer than 90 days) - single entry only)
  •  
  • Financial evidence e.g. A copy of pension statement if the applicant is a pensioner, or a copy of 1-month bank statement showing your income from pension, or 3-month bank statement of at least £10,000
  • Confirmation of legal residence in the UK or Ireland. Copy of health insurance that covers COVID-19 related medical expenses, both inpatient and outpatient, no less than 100,000 USD for the whole period of your stay in Thailand.

Non-Immigrant Type (Thai nationals who have abandoned Thai citizenship - single entry only)

  • Proof of having Thai citizenship e.g. Thai national ID card, Thai passport

  • Those who wish to stay longer must file an application for permission at the Office of Immigration Bureau (http://www.immigration.go.th). The extension of stay as well as the change of certain type of visa is solely at the discretion of the Immigration officer.

 

Non-Immigrant Type O- A (Long Stay) 1 Year/Multiple entries 

 

  • Printout of visa application form submitted online, with bar code

  • Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months and at least 2 blank pages

  • A medical certificate issued in the UK or Ireland or Thailand, showing no prohibitive diseases as indicated in the Ministerial Regulation No.14 (B.E. 2535) which include Leprosy, Tuberculosis, Elephantiasis, drug addiction, third stage of Syphilis, and the certificate shall be valid for not more than three months.
  • Certificate of criminal record clearance from the UK (ACRO, DBS, or issued by the police) or Ireland
  • Financial evidence showing monthly income of not less than 65,000 THB (approx. £1,625) or having the current balance of 800,000 THB (approx. £20,000), e.g. bank statements, proof of earnings, for at least 1 month
  • Copy of evidence stating that applicants have insurance as per stipulated by the Office of Insurance Commission and health insurance of Thailand which covers COVID-19 related medical expenses, both inpatient and outpatient, no less than 100,000 USD for the whole period of your stay in Thailand.

  • If you wish to be accompanied by spouse, the marriage certificate will be attached. But your spouse will be granted Non-Immigrant “O” instead of “O-A”(Long Stay)
  • Applicant must be of age 50 years old or over.

Note: 

- Please submit the originals of bank statement, criminal record check, and medical record, as well as one photocopy of each document. In case that an applicant could not submit the original documents, the Embassy will accept the photocopies which have been certified by a Notary Public officer or Solicitors.

- The consular officers reserve the rights to request additional documents as deemed necessary. 

 

 

Non-Immigrant Visa “O-X” (Long Stay) 5+5 Year/Multiple entries

 

On 22 November 2016, the Cabinet of Thailand approved scheme which allows nationals from 14 countries to stay in Thailand for the maximum period of 10 years. In order to enjoy this new scheme, the applicants must apply for Non-Immigrant Visa “O-X” Visa at the Royal Thai Embassy /Royal Thai Consulate-General (when applying outside Thailand) or the Immigration Bureau (when applying in Thailand).

 

The purpose of this type of visa is to promote long stay for foreign traveler to Thailand. Nationals of 14 countries with the age of 50 years old or over can apply for a multiple-entry Non-O-X visa and stay in Kingdom for the maximum period of 10 years (5 years according to visa validity plus an extension for another 5 years). The visa fee is 10,000 baht (or local currency equivalent if applying outside Thailand).

 

In accordance with the Notification of the Ministry of Interior Re: Authorization for Certain Groups of Aliens to enter the Kingdom  on exceptional case on Long-Stay Purpose in accordance with the Cabinet Resolution, date 22 November B.E. 2599 (2016) ( effective from 11 August 2017), foreigners with the following qualification and supporting documents may apply for a multiple- entry Non-O-X visa:

 

Applicants’ qualifications

  1. Age of 50 years old or over
  2. Applicants must be passport holder or nationality of (1) Japan (2) Australia (3) Denmark (4) Finland (5) France (6) Germany (7) Italy (8) Netherlands (9) Norway (10) Sweden (11) Switzerland (12) United Kingdom (13) Canada (14) United States of America
  3. Financial qualifications
  • Applicants must have money deposited in Thai bank located in Thai bank located in Thailand with the amount of not less than 3 million Baht; or
  • Applicants must have money deposited in Thai bank located in Thailand with the amount of not less than 1.8 million Baht and have income with the amount of not less than 1.2 million Baht per year. Once the applicants enter Thailand, they must have accumulated money deposited in Thai bank located in Thailand not less than 3 million Baht within 1 year.

The money in (a) and (b) must be kept in bank account at least 1 year before withdrawing and, within another next year, the money must be left in the account with the amount of not less than 1.5 million Baht and can only be spent in Thailand.

  1. Applicants must have no forbidden diseases according to the Ministerial Regulation No. 14 (B.E 2535) which include Leprosy, Tuberculosis, Elephantiasis, drug addiction and third stage of Syphilis.
  2. Applicants must have Thai medical insurance during their stay in Thailand (per the approval of the Office of Insurance Commission) and medical claims for outpatient must not be less than 40,000 Baht, for inpatient must not be less than 400,000 Baht.

 

Required Documents

  1. Passport must be valid for at least 1 year from the date of travel and at least 2 blank pages. - passport (validity over 6 months) and at least 2 blank pages. 
  2. Printout of visa application form submitted online, with bar code

  5. Certificate of criminal record clearance from the UK (ACRO, DBS, or issued by the police) or Ireland (In case the applicants have permanent residence in other country, they must provide the aforementioned document from both country of nationality and country of permanent residence.
  6. Copy of evidence stating that applicants have insurance as per stipulated by the Office of Insurance Commission and health insurance of Thailand which covers COVID-19 related medical expenses, both inpatient and outpatient, no less than 100,000 USD for the whole period of your stay in Thailand. Please check http://longstay.tgia.org> for more information regarding the insurance requirement.
  7. Financial evidence

        7.1 Certificate of bank deposit stating bank contract information, copy of bank book and bank statement which shows fixed deposit with the amount of not less than 3 million Baht deposited in Thai bank located in Thailand; OR

           7.2 Certificate of bank deposit stating bank contract information, copy of bank book and bank statement which shows fixed deposit with amount of not less than 1.8 million baht deposited in Thai bank located in Thailand and certificate of annual income with the amount of not less than 1.2 million Baht (local currency equivalent) per year. (Once the applicants enter Thailand, they must have accumulated money deposited in Thai bank located in Thailand not less than 3 million Baht within 1 year.)

  •  

Spouse and child, age under 20 years old, can apply for Non-O-X visa and must have the flowing required documents

  1. Spouse (no age restriction) must show a copy of marriage certificate together with documents stated in 1 - 8
  2. Child age under 20 years old must show a copy of birth certificate or proof of legitimate child and also have to submit documents number 1 – 3,7 and 8

 

How to apply for Non-O-X Visa (in case of applying outside Thailand)

  1. Foreigners who have the required qualification and supporting documents as stated above may apply for Non-O-X Visa at the Royal Thai Embassy/Royal Thai Consulate - General in the country of their nationality or where they have permanent residence.
  2. The Royal Thai Embassy/Royal Thai Consulate-General examines the qualifications and supporting documents and informs the result to the applicants.
  3. In case that the visa is approved, foreigners (main applicant, spouse and lawful child under 20 years old) will obtain a multiple-entry Non-O-X visa with visa validity of 5 years
  4. Upon arrival in Thailand, the immigration officer will grant the Non-O-X visa holders the stay permit in the Kingdom for the period of not exceeding 5 years according to visa validity.

Note: 

- Please submit the originals of required documentation stipulated above, as well as one photocopy of each document. In case that an applicant could not submit the original documents, the Embassy will accept the photocopies which have been certified by a Notary Public officer or Solicitors.

- The consular officers reserve the rights to request additional documents as deemed necessary.

 

Other Useful Information

  • Benefits of Non-O-X visa holders
  • Can work as a volunteer (in accordance with the list of volunteer work as stipulated by the Department of Employment).
  • Can purchase vehicle (under the provision of laws on motor vehicles).
  • Can purchase condominium (proceed in accordance with the condominium Act).
  • Foreigners who enter Thailand with other type of Visa/Visa Exemption may contact the immigration Bureau and Apply for Non-O-X visa.
  • Foreigners who enter Thailand with Non-O-X visa may change from Non-O-X type of other type of visa by submitting request to Immigration Bureau. Spouse and child’s visa approval will be changed according to status of the main applicant. However, spouse can apply for Non-O-X by himself/herself if he/she meets the qualifications.
  • Spouse/child who does not qualify for Non-O-X visa may apply for other type of non-immigrant visa in order to stay in Thailand with the Non-O-X visa holder.
  • Upon the completion of 90 days stay period in Thailand, foreigners must notify the Immigration Bureau of their residence in Thailand and shall repeat at every 90 days interval.
  • Foreigners must report, in person, to the immigration officer every 1 year for the examination of the qualifications and supporting documents.
  • Stay permit of the Non-O-X visa holders may be revoked due to following conditions:
  • Foreigners do not have financial evidence as per stipulated by above qualifications such as:

- The sum of money in the bank account is less than 3 million Bath at the end of the first year of stay period in Thailand.

- The sum of money in the bank account is less than 1.5 million Baht at the end of the second year of stay period in Thailand, and/or the money in said account was spent outside Thailand.

     2) Foreigners do not have insurance as per stipulated by above qualifications

     3) Foreigners pose threat to peace and security of Thailand.

     4) Foreigners work without permission.

  • Passport holders of Afghanistan, Algerian, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Central African Republic, the People's Republic of China, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Guinea, India, Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Lebanon, Liberia, Libya, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine, Sao Tome and Principe, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen are requested to file an application in person at the Thai Embassy where they have their permanent residence.
  • The document to be submitted for non-immigrant visa application is contingent upon necessities and appropriateness of purposes stated in the application form.
  • Consular officers reserve the rights to request for additional documents as deemed necessary.
  • Copies of company documents must be signed by Board of Directors and affixed the seal of the company.
  • In the absence of a required document, a letter indicating the unavailability of such document must be provided
  • The applicant must sign on each page of the copy
  • Documents in foreign languages must be translated in Thai. If translated into English, it should be notarised by notary organs or the applicant's diplomatic/ consular mission.

 


Validity of a Visa

  • Single entry: 3 months. You must enter Thailand within the validity of visa from the date of issue.
  • Multiple entry: 1 year. You must enter Thailand on your final visit before expiry of the visa from the date of issue.


Validity of Stay

The holders of this type of visa are initially granted a period of stay in the Kingdom not exceeding 90 days unless otherwise instructed by the Office of Immigration Bureau.


Extension of Stay

Those qualified persons can obtain an additional one year stay permit counting from the date of entry in the Kingdom pertaining to the Office of the Immigration Bureau's regulations on extension of stay. The extension of stay is at the discretion of the Immigration officer.

N.B. Applicants wishing to stay in the Kingdom longer than 90 days, have to file their application either at the Thai consular mission aboard or at the Office of Immigration Bureau in Bangkok located on Soi Suan Plu, off South Sathorn Road,Bangkok 10120 , Tel (662) 287-3101-10 (or website at http://www.immigration.go.th) . The consular officer must refer the case to the Office of Immigration Bureau for approval. Upon receiving approval, the consular officer may issue the visa as instructed by the Bureau.
