On 25 September 2018, Mr. Pisanu Suvanajata, Ambassador of Thailand to the UK and Permanent Representative of Thailand to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), hosted a get-together dinner at Patara Restaurant, London, to introduce Thailand’s IMO team for 2018 Session and to congratulate Mr. Watchara Chiemanukulkit, a Thai graduate from the IMO International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI), Malta, who was awarded the IMO Secretary-General’s Prize for Best Dissertation of the year. The dinner was attended by H.E. Mr. Kitack Lim, Secretary-General of the IMO, Mr. Stefan Micallef, Assistant Secretary-General of the IMO, Mr. Ranjit Pillai, Deputy Director of International Oil Pollutions Compensation Funds (IOPC Funds) and high level representatives from member states of the IMO Council. 
 
The Thai Ambassador reiterated Thailand’s commitments in working with the IMO and its members to comply with obligations under various IMO instruments. As the newest member of IOPC Funds, Thailand submitted its first oil report in August 2018, which was recognised as a quality paper from senior management of IOPC Funds. 
 
It was also reiterated that as Chair of ASEAN in 2019 in which the “Connectivity for Sustainability,” including maritime connectivity, will be the focus, Thailand is committed to constructively and actively work with the IMO in promoting various activities that will contribute to the purpose of maritime sustainability.
