Ambassador of Thailand sought to enhance cooperation with the University of Glasgow

On 14 May 2018, Mr. Pisanu Suvanajata, Ambassador of Thailand to the United Kingdom, had a meeting with Prof. Neal Juster, Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Glasgow. Also present were Prof. Muffy Calder, Vice Principal and Head of College of Science and Engineering, Prof. George Baillie, Dean of Graduate Studies, College of Medicine, Veterinary and Life Sciences, Dr. Ian Watson, International Dean, College of Science and Engineering, and Ms. Katy Scott, International Recruitment Manager, as well as Ms. Thanida Techachokvivat, Minister for Educational Affairs

The Ambassador updated the University executives on the progress of Thailand 4.0 strategy, the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), and the development of supporting infrastructure, for which the human resources development is required and it would be a good opportunity for academic collaboration.  The University is interested in exploring new models of cooperation with academic institutions aboard.  Currently, the University has a strong cooperation with Mahidol University and King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, and has been impressed by Thai students in their academic proficiency and interesting research ideas. The University is looking for academic collaboration both in teaching and researches, while encouraging partnership with the private sector through researches and supporting spinouts to realize their research works with commercial values.  To pursue concrete cooperation, the Ambassador invited the University representatives to attend the EEC Road Show, which the Embassy will jointly organise with the EEC Office, on 17 July 2018 in Manchester.
