On Wednesday 12 February 2020, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, chaired a Special Meeting of Team Thailand in London to exchange views on foreign policies and how to further strengthen the Thai-UK relations. Ambassador Pisanu Suvanajata briefed the meeting on the Thai-UK relations and the achievements by the Team Thailand in London in raising awareness and visibility of Thailand in the UK, using Thailand’s soft power, such as culture and tourism. The Ambassador also gave his assessment on opportunities and challenges for Thailand from Brexit and how to further enhance cooperation with the post-Brexit UK under the Global Britain policy. In this regard, the Foreign Minister was pleased with the well-integrated work of the Team Thailand in London and gave a policy guidance that Thailand, as an ASEAN Member State, shall do her utmost to raise profile of ASEAN and further enhance cooperation between the UK and ASEAN, especially in the area of sustainable development, for which Thailand is the coordinator of ASEAN, while using soft power in culture, arts, food, and public health. Lastly, as this year marks the 165th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the UK, the Foreign Minister advised the Team Thailand in London to remain deeply engaged with the UK for an even closer relationship in the years to come.
