On 6 February 2020, Ambassador Pisanu Suvanajata and Mrs. Luxmon Attapich, Deputy Secretary General of the Eastern Economic Corridor Office (EECO) of Thailand had a meeting with Mr. Tim Mawe, Director for Asia and Pacific, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland. The meeting exchanged views on how to promote two-way investment exchanges between Thailand and Ireland. In light of Irish businesses’ increasing interest in "expanding footprints" in Asia and the Pacific and the new ‘Global Ireland : Delivering in Asia and the Pacific Region to 2025 launched last month, the Thai side encouraged Ireland to explore immense economic opportunities for investments and partnerships in the EEC areas. In particular, technology and innovation, agriculture and smart food are among the sectors which Ireland has strength and corresponds with the Thailand 4.0 national strategy. Ambassador Pisanu reiterated Thailand’s readiness to be Ireland’s gateway to ASEAN and beyond. In addition, the meeting also discussed how to further advance bilateral relations, ranging from high-level exchanges of visits, cooperation in fields of mutual interests such as education and cooperation in multilateral fora.
